The position is within a three year research project (full time). Start date September 1, 2019 or according to agreement. Information about the Department of Philosophy and research conducted there can be found at filosofi.uu.se.

The position is within the project ‘Aesthetic Perception and Aesthetic Cognition‘ financed by Vetenskapsrådet. The principal investigator is Professor Elisabeth Schellekens. Of special interest for the project is research in philosophical aesthetics with a special focus on the philosophy of mind, philosophy of perception, and ethics.

Principal  duties: The postdoctoral associate is mainly supposed to be engaged in research and to take care of certain administrative duties associated with the project. However, some teaching and supervision of students will also be involved. The position involves presence at the department in accordance with existing collective agreements.

Requirements: To be eligible one must have shown research expertise in analytic aesthetics, completed one’s PhD at the latest in the summer of 2019, shown pedagogical expertise, and has the personal characteristics required to perform the duties associated with the post well.

Additional qualifications: Special weight will be attached to the applicant’s research expertise, but pedagogical expertise and administrative skills will also be taken into consideration. In the evaluation of research expertise the most important factor is quality. The applicant should also have the ability to plan, initiate and develop research independently.

This description should contain an account of how the project contributes to international research on the subject. The description should also clearly state how the applicant’s proposed project relates to the general research project.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.

Starting date: 01-09-2019 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of position: Permanent full-time position during three years.

PhD fellowship in the field of Trust and Risk in Literature (5+3)

The Graduate School at Arts, Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University invites applications for a PhD fellowship in Trust and Risk in Literature provided the necessary funding is available. This PhD fellowship is available as of 1 September 2016 for a period of up to three years (5+3). The candidate who is awarded the fellowship must commence his/her PhD degree programme on 1 September 2016.

The PhD fellowship will be financed by Aarhus University Research Foundation.

The PhD fellowship is advertised within the Trust and Risk in Literature Project (http://projects.au.dk/trust-and-risk-in-literature-network/). This project is interested in connecting the ethical, philosophical and linguistic expertise of literary studies to a growing body of research in ‘Trust Studies’, which identifies risk as a way to modify traditional understandings of trust.

We are interested in research projects that explore how English literature in either the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries interrogate trust or risk, either historically or philosophically. How, for instance, was trust - or the absence of trust - represented in poetry, prose or drama during periods of dramatic social change such as the English civil wars or industrial revolution? How does literature reflect the rise of risk as a way of evaluating and engaging with a complex world? The project should engage with current discussions about trust and risk in society in other fields such as social anthropology, governance, economics, systems management and/or business studies. The successful candidate will be part of the Trust and Risk Research Group and international network and will have the opportunity to present their research at upcoming Trust and Risk in Literature Network meetings as well as major conferences such as MLA. There is some scope for comparative studies with literature in other languages but the PhD will be conducted and written in English.

Activité interdisciplinaire de discussion de films aux deux semaines, à partir du lundi 28 janvier 2013, 18h, local FSS-502 (organisée par des étudiants gradués du département de sociologie/anthropologie et de philosophie).

Il y aura d’abord visionnement en commun du film sélectionné, suivi d’une discussion qui pourra être lancée par l’un ou l’autre des participants qui désire poser un problème ou, de manière plus spontanée, par le partage des effets esthétiques produits chez chacun, comme lorsqu’on sort du cinéma avec des amis. Les films seront projetés en langue originale avec sous-titres anglais.

Movie Discussion Workshop

Interdisciplinary activity of the discussion of movies, every two weeks beginning Monday, January 28, 2013, at 6 pm, in FSS-5028 (organized by graduate students of anthropology/sociology and philosophy).

Each film will be screened, followed by a discussion. Discussions topics may vary, as they may be initiated by any participant who wishes to discuss a particular aspect of the film (aesthetic, etc.). It needs not be too serious, just like going to the movies with friends ! Films will be projected in their original language with English subtitles.
